Nizo e Serchuk Alimov, della Kočani Orkestar

(Stip, Macedonia)

nizo e serchukukThe two brothers Sercuk and Nizo succeeded in making their name very famous in Macedonia and on the Balkans generally. Playing gypsy music gave them wings and they played everywhere in the world: USA, Brasil, Japan, Europe, New Caledonia etc. In 2003, Nizo started playing with Kočani Orkestar which was a great honor since he was only 17 year olds. His brother Sercuk in this period was trying to find his own way. After a while (2009) they formed the orchestra named after the first trumpet player Sercuk. Besides the traditional music playing, they started also collaborating with some famous DJ’s. The first project was collaboration with the reggae DJ : Tomche Rude Boy. The halls where they were playing the famous hits from Bob Marley to Madness were full! Soon the biggest Dj and composer from Macedonia , Kiril Dzajkovski offered them a collaboration so Sercuk and Nizo became inseparable members of his band.

Today both of them are playing in 3 different projects: Kočani Orkestar , Sercuk Orkestar and Kiril Dzajkovski.

Yes, Sercuk is now leading trumpet in Kočani Orkestar since 2010.

uk Violinist Jake Shulman-Ment is among the leaders of a new generation of Klezmer and Eastern European folk music performers. His versatility as a violinist, composer, improvisor, teacher, and folk music researcher has established him as one of the world’s leading practitioners of the klezmer violin. As a child in New York, Jake’s immersion in Yiddish culture and the klezmer revival movement, as well as rock, jazz, and classical music, formed him into an eclectic musician with multiple influences at work simultaneously. In an effort to explore more deeply the roots of the Jewish music he grew up with, Jake has done extensive research and study with Roma musicians in Romania and Hungary. He has synthesized his experiences and travels into an original sound, sometimes departing quite far into a realm of experimentation, but always remaining true to his deep roots in traditional Jewish music.
